Community Stories – March
Community stories are little stories told to us last month for us to share with the community. You can share a story in our Facebook Groups (For Dogs, For Cats), blog comments, submitted to our story suggestion form, or personally on the road.
Stories can be credited to you or provided anonymously. We will confirm with you that all stories are okay to share with everyone.
THE CAT AND THE COW
Our cat, Faith, loves to be out on the open road traveling from place to place in our RV. Whenever we get to a new spot to camp, she’s up on the back of the chair or on a table to look out a window. She wants to see just where each new adventure takes her.
On a particularly long drive, we decided to stop for lunch at a pull-out alongside of a lovely pasture. Well, Faith immediately jumped up onto the table to see where we were.
While we were setting up for lunch, one of the resident cows of the pasture had come up to the fence and was looking into our window. Faith saw the cow and immediately back-pedaled off of the table! She sure wasn’t expecting that!
Faith is a pretty easy-going cat, so once she recovered and realized that this large animal wasn’t going to get her, she chose to get back up on her perch and watch it for a while. She and the cow just happily stared at each other.
What an entertaining lunch we had that day!
KITTY BRINGS “PRESENTS” BACK TO RV
Last year I came across a couple of full-time RVers who traveled with their two cats. The couple had these cats since they were kittens and trained them to come back to the RV using dinner time as the lure. These were kitties who got to use a cat door to go in and out of the RV as often as they liked.
Every now and then, like most cats, the kitties would bring back “presents” they had caught while out and about on their daily prowls in the desert. One day, their owner saw that one of the cats had something in its mouth on its way back to the RV. Once inside, the cat dropped it on the floor. IT WAS A BABY RATTLESNAKE! And it was still alive!
Now, as you may know, baby rattlesnakes can be more dangerous than adults because they don’t know how to let go once they bite. So, they just keep pumping the poison into their victim with no mercy.
Needless to say, the cats’ owners were quick to remove this “present” from their RV in the safest way possible. Fortunately, no one was bitten and they have another adventure cat story to tell!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PUP!
Lisa Caughlin, Owner of Canine Academy, had a client who dropped off his big, happy lab named Popcorn. The man starts to leave, then comes back and says, “I need to give him a big hug, it’s his birthday!”
THIS PUP LOVES TIDEPOOLS
When my husband and I were traveling along the Oregon Coast with our dog, we stopped to camp at Seal Rock. Our dog wasn’t much of a water dog, even though he was part Labrador Retriever. However, on this particular trip to the beach, we were watching him dash in and out of the ocean as we walked along the shore. It was fun seeing him trot happily away from us then come back with what seemed like a smile on his face.
At sunset, we started taking lots of fabulous pictures. And, the tide was out so we got to see many of the animals that lived in the tide pools. Of course our dog was with us so he became fascinated with the pools of water, too. All of a sudden, he decided that one tide pool was perfect enough to take a dip into. We’re not sure where he suddenly got the courage to actually “swim” but we saw that he was thoroughly enjoying himself. He would swim a little, get out, then go back in for another dip. He had his own personal pool!
After a while, it got dark and we needed to head back to the RV. I was so happy that my dog had such a happy day. I’ll forever remember his smiling face.
